This is sort of an off shoot from the "The Dilemma" thread which was sort of turning into a political debate thread and getting way off track. So here I went and made this one.

What are your political views? Do you lean left, or right, and do you consider yourself a liberal, conservative, libertarian, independent, or a mixture of two or more of them? Do you affiliate yourself with the republicans or democrats or neither?

I am a Conservative Libertarian, I hate Republicans and Democrats in the Government equally. Both seem to only want to increase spending and drive us into the ground. I wouldn't really say I lean left or right, I just believe in the Constitution.

So, how bout you guys?

As most people can tell. I am a capitalist. I love the economy and making money in it. =) My other views are my own and I like too many people in the guild to talk about them in the guild. =)

Amen to that statement Jan!

Libertarians are cool. Thom Hartmann calls them "Republicans that want to smoke dope and get laid". Not saying that is you Mage, I just love that quote.

My views will come later when I have more time to write

This is what makes America the best damn country ever. Freedom baby.

Suffer well.

I like pie.

Registered as independent. I think. Been a while since I checked. If I were to really get into politics I would probably form my own party. I don't really know what name I would give my positions.

Like most things I have a variety of political views.

I am registered as a Republican but am more and more upset with the party's direction and performance.

Libertarian
I am a foremost a libertarian and believe that individuals should be allowed to live as they wish.
The government is too intrussive and should be minimalized.
The government's purpose is to protect the individual from external threats (non citizens, other governements, malicious organizations, ect.), or internal threats (monopolies, criminal gangs, dangerous organizations).
The ONLY thing, in my mind that needs to be truely protected is this: forced actions (can't rape someone or force someone to do something for you, ie: slavery), murder (no killing or physical harm dealt purposely to another), thieft (it's not yours don't touch it).
People really try to expand on these things with blue book laws and silly things. Every law that is passed reduces your freedom by just a little bit more.

Naturalism
I believe that the universe is ruled by unbreakable laws of causation and I do not believe in the super natural in anyway.
This is not a denial of a divine being but a statement to the amazing capablities of that being.
Think like this, if God were to create a universe and because of his amazing power and foresight was able to know with relative certainty the way events would unfold, he could develope a world wherein he would not have to "directly intervein" in such a way as to go in opposition to the rules of his creation. Thus a miracle is a miracle, not because of it's supernatural quality, because nothing is able to break the rules of nature (God could but wouldn't because of his omnipresence and planning), he would simply "have" things happen (planned since the start) that would be so rare or unlikely to normally occur that in truth although it was natural it WAS a miracle.
Complicated and longwinded I know but ya see what I'm saying? (feel free to disagree this is my faith not yours )

Naturism
Clothing, for use other than environmental protection, is unnecassary.
I believe that we should return to a more natural state.
People will, in regards to clothing, refer to modesty. I counter that arguement that spending excessively on clothing (which everyone does to some degree) is actually not being modest at all but is flamboyant. You display your social rank, your monetary class and views by wearing clothing, it is anything but being modest (I will excuse those of you who wear cheap clothing and simple garbs from this arguement and are thus still being modest).

I believe in willing socialism and communalism.
People should willingly give of their time and goods for the welfare of those around them and the rest of society ( IE: adoptions, big brother/sister programs, help with homeless shelters, food drives, ect.).
This should not be forced in anyway, like communism, but should be from an inborn desire to help others.

This has been long winded and if you read it thanks!

Nature, it is all around us. It is easy for man to see himself apart from her but in truth he is but another aspect of her divine manifestations.
Sounds nice Josh.

I'm registered independent as I am tired of both parties. When I worked for the government I tend to lean to the conservative side. When I work for a private firm, I tend to lean to the liberal side. lol But I am pretty much in the middle anyway. I am socially liberal but fiscally conservative.

Haha thats pretty much it! But mostly I use the term libertarian to define myself against pure conservatives like Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh...I usually agree with Glenn Beck (also conservative libertarian) and Bill O'Reilly.

Yeah, I think I'm that. I took a really interesting political position quiz years ago that measured you on two scales, and one was fiscal and the other social. I'll see if I can find it again (later).

One thing that is hard being a socially liberal, fiscal conservative is that you don't really fit in either party. I tried being a republican for awhile to get in touch with my fiscally conservative side, but wasn't happy there because of the social conservatives. So I tend to side with the democrats. I am ok with social reforms.. like public health care even*... as long as we have the money and we don't go crazy with taxation.

*I probably wouldn't have supported it 2 years ago as my husband and I were healthy and my older daughter is perfect, but having a messed up kid now I can really sympathize with people that have health problems and difficulty getting care. We have health insurance, but if I was a mom to a kid like mine without health insurance I would probably be deep in debt right now.

--
I guess I'd be more of a Libertarians, though I haven't thought about it in a few years. Personally I believe in a more limited government, like Dimpy said. I also feel that the federal government should allow the states to govern themselves first and foremost. Basically I believe in the constitution.

I think health care reform would be great, just not in the way Obama want's it. Having to go through the insurance companies and the government for your health care would give many a huge headache.

Well I don't know how you would classify me, I'll let you decide since I don't even know. One thing I do know is that I'm not a partisan person at all. I've voted Democrat, Republican and Indendent all in the same election year for different positions. Thing is most of my political viewpoints depend on the issue in question. I couldn't possibly generalize. Sometimes I side with the conservatives, sometimes the liberals I guess I would be a moderate person that can't stand the extreme left or right of the spectrum.

I believe that the government is there to first and foremost serve its citizens and ensure that their basic needs are met: protection from others, affordable access to food, healthcare, education and shelter. I believe that all legislation should be passed to benefit the majority of the people in the country which means I am completely against special interest groups because they are only there to benefit a small group.

I believe in the principles that the Constitution was written on but think that some of them are out of date for our time. I don't have a prefernce on government size but I do believe that the government is NOT in place to protect us from ourselves. I believe that the goevernment needs to stop pandering to whiners and being politically correct. If you don't like what somebody says or does remove yourself from the situation, those are the types of people that are forcing the government more and more into our personal lives so take care of it yourself and let me live my life.

Okay I think you get some sort of an idea maybe... I am just rambling now so I'll spare you anymore. If anybody wants to know more specifically I'll be more than willing to share.

The 10th Amendment to the US Constitution exists only in theory.

Question... why would you have to go through the government and insurance for your healthcare? The Obama plan doesn't remove private insurance or force anybody into a government option.

Too bad for that, eh Delt?

And as to what you said Zirc, to steal from a song, "Whoever appeals to the law against your fellow man is either a fool or a coward." This is the way I've always felt.
